The Merlin Scopes September 2025

What an intense four weeks it has been! I've been making significant changes in my home and life. I shredded 20 pounds of old documents, finally let go of my ancient phone, and—believe it or not—got an Apple Watch (something I never thought I'd do!). I've started transitioning my email to a new carrier and went through the difficult task of deleting contacts of dear ones who are no longer with us. So many changes and transitions. Three people I know passed away in these past four weeks alone.

But there's wonderful news from my oncologist: Last post I shared with you that It's been 4½ years since my last treatment for Stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer. Well, my doctor says I'm in remission and doesn't believe the cancer is coming back!

My sweet Alice (my Doberman Pinscher) is managing well on medications for cardiomyopathy. She also has elevated ALT levels, and the vet believes she has Copper Storage Disease. Since there's so much copper in commercial dog food, I now cook for her. In my research, I discovered a wonderful book by Cyndi Smasal titled "Hope for Healing Liver Disease in Your Dog." She's incredibly knowledgeable and includes several recipes for dogs and cats. I was amazed by how much Alice loves this homemade food!
